We are seeking a summer intern to assist Toyota in conceiving the “Dealership of the Future”.  This assignment will involve working in a team setting with both members of Toyota’s internal team, and our external architectural partner, Gensler.  The work will combine analytical work derived from data gathered from existing customers and developing conceptual designs that integrate the ideas and concepts that come for that data.  The dealership of the future isn’t only about cars and trucks, but how Toyota can evolve our services to the consumers relative to mobility and other services.

It is anticipated that this person will spend part of their week at Toyota’s headquarters and part at Gensler’s Dallas office.

Who we’re looking for

Toyota’s Retail Market Development (RMD) Team is looking for a passionate and highly motivated RMD/Market Representation Intern; someone with an architecture education and a passion for business development and conceptual design in the retail space.

RMD’s Mission

The Retail Market Development department provides information, guidance, and insight to its field offices and TMNA business units to create the most effective dealer networks in the industry. RMD works with each ownership group to implement the Toyota facility standards while encouraging innovation that is beneficial to the customer experience. 

What you’ll be doing

  • Join a leading strategy team in reviewing retail network planning and explore alternative retail formats (multi-format network, consumer driven, service-oriented, experiential, brand-focused)
  • Work with the RMD IT Group on dealer investments, financials, and Market Representation IS platforms/projects
  • Support the RMD strategy that will produce an industry-leading automotive representation optimizing the guest experience while maximizing dealership vehicle sales and service business now and, in the future
  • Conceptualize other non-traditional services that can become new income streams for our dealers
  • Gain real-world experience on various projects and initiatives that truly impact the performance of a company.

Internship Eligibility

  • You are currently enrolled in an NAAB accredited Bachelor’s or Master’s Architecture program
  • You have completed your third year of an undergraduate program or first year of a graduate program and are returning to your program post-internship. This internship is not for recent graduates.
  • Available to work full-time, in office, during the Summer 2023 term in Dallas, Texas
  • GPA of 2.70 or higher
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Lawful unlimited authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and be able to commute to both the Toyota headquarters and Gensler’s Dallas office, which is approximately 20 miles away

Qualifications

  • Experience using Revit or Rhino required; AutoCAD, and/or BIM modeling software a plus  
  • 3-D computer rendering skills (Enscape, V-ray, Sketch Up, 3-D Max, and/or other modeling software)  
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign  
  • Demonstrated strong research, problem solving and analytical skills with ability to think strategically and tactically and look beyond the data
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; proven ability to interface with all audience levels and all levels of management, staff, outside clients and vendors
  • Work on various TMNA systems (such as Workout, SmartView) and BI software (Tableau, Alteryx, etc.)
  • Experienced individual to work collaboratively and cross-organizationally as well as be an effective team member
  • Proven track record in collaboration, negotiation, diplomacy, and excellent communication skills in helping meet or exceed business goals and objectives
